CIA agents called in a hit on a small plane that was suspected to be smuggling drugs.  They could not have been more wrong.  Jim and Veronica Bowers were American missionaries working in the jungle in Northern Peru.

They were flying back to camp with their two children, six-year-old son Cory and infant daughter Charity, who was sitting on Veronica Bowers’s lap, when their Cessna aircraft was mistakenly targeted by CIA spotters in 2001.  Watch the shocking video below,

The CIA reconissance team called in the hit without even checking the plane’s markings.  After they called in the Peruvian military to attack the plane the CIA operatives began to have doubts.  It was not until it was way to late that they tried to call off the hit.  Veronica Bowers and her daughter were killed by the gunfire.

The incident was covered up by lies and attempts to delay the investigation.  The CIA’s own investigation, concluded in 2005, wrapped up without charges against anyone involved.  After this video surfaced the CIA says 16 agents were “diciplined” even though they insisted that none of its officers had acted inappropriately.  Whatever dicipline was given to these agents it was not any kind of serious punishment.

In a CIA statement given to the American media on Feb 3rd they blame the Peruvian government,

CIA officers did not shoot down any airplane. In the case of the tragic downing of April 21st, 2001, CIA personnel protested the identification of the missionary plane as a suspect drug trafficker.

What the fuck are they doing shooting down planes in the first place?  Even if the plane was full of drug smugglers they still deserve a trial.  Do you get shot if you smuggle weed across the US border in a car?

Investigations revealed that the Cessna was one of 15 small civilian aircraft shot down during the covert programme from 1995 to 2001. The CIA inspector-general said in November that in most cases the flights were shot down “without being properly identified, without being given the required warnings to land, and without being given time to respond to such warnings as were given to land”.

The CIA and DEA really think they are Team America World Police.  US agencies have committed numerous terrorist attacks and atrocities in South America in the name of the war on drugs.  Remember the Iran-Contra scandal?  Who knows how much they are still covering up.  The war on drugs is a war on the people.  It needs to end.

Rick Simpson is the Mother Teresa of the marijuana movement.  He has made and distributed his cure for cancer for years.  It is hard to believe that marijuana is actually the cure for cancer but the evidence is undeniable.  Rick’s cure is hemp oil, he makes it the same way as honey oil. The results are amazing, just watch his promotional video “Run From The Cure”,

Marijuana has been smoked as medicine for millenia.  Even today more and more medical uses are being discovered.  Cancer patients have used cannabis in a variety of forms since the 70s.  Rick Simpson discovered that in order to achieve the full medical potential it is necessary to consume large quantities of cannabinoids, much more than you can get from smoking.  Following his formula a patient must ingest 1 gram of “hemp oil” per day for 60 days.  After that period 70% of patients are cancer free.  He has had similar success with many other medical conditions.

The cancer fighting effects of cannabis are backed up by independant scientific research.  Studies show that marijuana kills brain cancer cells while leaving regular healthy cells alone (link1, link2).  Other research backs up the claim that marijuana cures cancer (link1, link2).  It has been known since the 70s that natural marijuana can slow cancerous tumor growth (link).  In addition it is physically impossible to have a fatal overdose on any form of marijuana.  It is not addictive, and ingesting cannabis in the form of “hemp oil” eliminates any negative effects associated with inhaling burning plant material.

Non only have these incredible results been ignored by the medical establishment and cancer associations now the RCMP has raided Rick’s house and charged him with marijuana cultivation. Rick is currently in exile in Europe because if he comes back to Canada he will have to face trial and could be sentenced to up to 14 years in prison.  Rick Simpson was awarded the High Times Freedom Fighter of the Year 2009 and had a cover story published in the January 2010 issue.

How can cancer groups such as the Canadian Cancer Society claim that they are looking for a cure? Rick has contacted as many groups as he can to get this cure to the people. He has been ignored by every one. It sure seems like a conspiracy doesn’t it?

If you take a look at the treatments for cancer today you really have to wonder why the medical establishment runs from the cure. Chemotherapy only has a 2-4% success rate in treating cancer. The process kills healthy and cancerous cells in the same way. The first chemical used in chemotherapy is same chemical in mustard gas (a chemical weapon). Today’s chemotherapy drugs are considered to be the most toxic substances ever put deliberately into the human body. The side effects of chemo are horrendous and far too many to list here, you can see that list here. It is no wonder that 75% of doctors would not even take chemo themselves if they had cancer (link).  Despite these facts they will encourage you to take chemo, and in some cases people are forced by courts into chemotherapy (link).

Radiation therapy works by damaging the DNA of cells.  It kills healthy as well as cancerous cells.  Unlike chemo doctors can target cancerous cells to minimize the damage to healthy tissue but it still does damage.  Radiation therapy also has a laundry list of side effects including hair loss and reduced white blood cell count.  Radiation therapy can actually be a cause of cancer as well.  The success rate is much higher than chemo but does not work for all types of cancer.

There are other treatments as well such as surgery, immunotherapy, hormonal therapy and others.  For each of these treatments patients are given all kinds of pharmaceutical drugs, including medical marijuana.  The pharmaceutical industry is one of the most lucrative industries on the planet.  The estimated market share is in excess of $820 billion and projected to hit $929 billion by 2012.  The cancer portion is estimated to be a $200 billion industry.  With those kind of numbers it is becoming clear why they run from the cure.

It is impossible to patent a natural plant.  Pharmaceutical companies tried and failed.  That is a contributing factor to the ongoing prohibition of marijuana.  Big pharma does not want you to be able to grow medicine yourself.  That is exactly what Rick Simpson demonstrated with his work.  His medicine can be grown by anyone in nearly any part of the world.  Hemp oil is easily produced at home without the need of any specialized equipment.  It is the absolute worst enemy of the pharmaceutical industry.

Living in exile in europe is not cheap.  Rick has never asked for any money for his contribution to mankind but now he needs our help.  Donation can be given to Rick at his website phoenixtears.ca.  We hope the best for you Rick, keep up the fight!

A new hydroponics store opened in Oakland California on January 28.  The thing that sets this store apart from all the other hydroponics stores is that it is huge.  This store is in a 15,000-square-foot warehouse.  iGrow is based their store design on Ikea, they have a variety of hydroponic systems layed out on display.  There is a doctor on site who can issue a medical marijuana card as well as technicians who will travel to your house and help you set up your new pot growing equipment.  The only thing this store doesn’t have is clones.  Check out this video,

So what its a huge pot growing store.  The store itself is not all that significant but the media coverage that it is getting is.  It is one more notch in the belt of the legalization movement and perhaps a glimpse of what the post-prohibition world will be like.

2009 hosted several firsts in the legal marijuana industry. In March 2009 the first publicly traded medical marijuana company, Medical Marijuana Inc, was founded.  It is a consulting company for medical marijuana businesses.  Last year in Colorado a gourmet marijuana restaurant opened called Ganja Gourmet.  It is the first marijuana restaurant.

Each of these businesses helps get society ready for the legal marijuana industry that is to come.  Recreational marijuana possession is still illegal throughout the US.  Pot is decriminalized in many states for non-medical use but it is still against the law and trafficking and cultivation are met with long prison sentences.  Up here in Canada it is 100% illegal for non-medical use.  There are not any marijuana producing corporations yet unless you count gangs and cartels which have multi-billion dollar market share on the black market.

With all the progress in the anti-prohibition movement over the last year a government fear mongering effort was inevitable. After all it is the job of the government to maintain the status quo.

Last night in Canada our national TV station, CBC, aired two 1 hour documentaries about marijuana. The first one was on David Suzuki’s Nature of Things. Suzuki is very well respected in Canada, he ranked fifth in “the Greatest Canadian” vote hosted on CBC.  Last night’s episode was titled “The Downside of High” and focussed mainly on the cannabis-schizophhrenia link.  As Loopy Lettuce readers know that is a total myth.  Suzuki quoted a study that was done in the 80s which showed a weak causal relationship at best, read the  schizophrenia myth for more on that.

He also used the marijuana potency myth.  “This isn’t your grandma’s weed” is the jist of it.  The documentary was not objective and ignored newer studies that disprove the cannabis-schizophhrenia link.  The second documentary was called CannaBiz and showed the organized crime connection in the marijuana industry.  It was a generally anti-prohibition documentary and even featured interviews with Marc Emery.  Suzuki’s show was clearly placed in the lineup to give an anti-marijuana message before CannaBiz was shown.  It was obvious fear mongering and CBC is not alone.

The National Post published an eerily similar article the same day, Jan 28 (LINK).  This article was much more blatant fear mongering than the Nature of Things.  If you have any doubts this quote from the article will set the record straight,

Despite what some of its advocates might claim, any “medicinal” qualities are bred right out of the stuff that’s sold on the streets. It’s not wacky anymore. It’s dangerous.

I hope the author, Brian Hutchinson, reads this; medical marijuana is exactly the same as street marijuana.  Many medical growers sell their excess in the black market and the overwhelming majority of Canadian medical cannabis users buy their weed on the “streets”.  He used the potency myth too.  The article says “[BC bud is] 130% more potent than marijuana produced just a decade ago.”  That little “fact” was competely fabricated in order to scare readers.  It is a lie.  I live in BC and I rarely get the high end pot discussed in these propaganda pieces.  When I do it is fucking awesome!  BC bud is not one kind of weed, as Hutchinson points out it is “a catch-all term for locally grown marijuana.”  There is shitty weed in BC too but overall we do have some of the best pot in the world.  It is not some diabolical scheme to hook young addicts as the propaganda would have you believe, we just try harder because we love good pot.

BC bud is being demonized the same way “skunk” is in the UK.  Newspapers in that country have made alarmist claims about skunk and the non-existent schizophrenia risk for some time now.  The British media is the main distributor of this particular propaganda.  Here are some of the UK media claims:

From this article,

Cannabis has been implicated in a string of vicious killings, including the recent stabbing of fashion designer Lucy Braham.

This article is even worse,

Addicts will kill more people unless the Government takes tougher action against super-strength cannabis, a mental health charity has warned.

This headline says it all, “Skunk Linked to Huge Increase in Risk of Psychotic Disease

There are literally hundreds of similar articles published in the UK in the last couple years.  It is all lies, and founded in gutter science.  This is brainwashing.  Marijuana, unlike alcohol or cocaine, does not lead to violence.  It has been shown scientifically again and again.

About a month ago Canadian newspapers headlined some more marijuana junk science.  Read about it here.  A study from McGill University in Montreal used rats and powerful synthetic cannabinoids to show that marijuana damages adolecent humans’ brains.  Paul Armentano does a great job of cutting through the media lies.

At the end of December the Conservative government began an anti-pot media campaign with TV commercials and print ads.  The Conservatives also introduced legislation that will introduce mandatory minimum sentences for marijuana crimes and US style drug courts.  Stephen Harper’s affinity for the US war on drugs is pretty damn obvious.  Previous Canadian governments were smart enough to stay away from a full on war on drugs but Harper didn’t get the memo.  The US has placed anti pot messages in TV shows since the Nixon regime.  It is pretty obvious what Harper and his team are up to.

The government knows that pot is harmless, their own commission proved it in 2002.  There are volumes of scientific evidence that  prove marijuana is the safest drug.  So why is the government spending millions of our own tax dollars to brainwash us against pot?  I don’t know the answer to that.  The government has something big to gain from marijuana prohibition and my bet is its money.  One way or another they aren’t going to give in without a fight.

Harry Ansliger spread the hate on marijuana and essentially began the criminalization of marijuana worldwide.  Richard Nixon took it to the extreme.  In June 1971 Nixon declared the war on drugs which took the drug policy of the United States worldwide.  Nixon and his supporters lableled illegal drugs as public enemy number one in the United States.  Nixon also created the DEA and increased penalties for marijuana. The United State’s first action in the drug war was a massive surprise attack on Mexico’s border by U.S. law enforcement personnel, code named “Operation Intercept.”  In September 1969 Nixon essentially shut down the US-Mexico border under the premise of disrupting the marijuana trade.  Each and every vehicle crossing the boarder was given a 3 minute intensive search.  The operation lasted only 20 days after border delays severly affected the economies of both countries.  The amound of drugs seized was much less than Nixon expected but that was not the true purpose for the unilateral action.  It was to coerce Mexico into funding a domestic drug eradication and enforcement policy in which Operation Intercept was a success.  Decptive and coercive tactics are the hallmarck of the US war on drugs which continues to this day.

Operation Intercept was the first drug related unilateral action against another country by the United States.  It symbolizes the US ‘s inability to accept responsibility for it’s own drug problem.  Instead the US government blames other countries which produce and distribute illegal drugs to the growing black market inside the borders of the United States.

In 1970 the Nixon government passed the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act which included the Controlled Substances Act (CSA).  The CSA created the five schedules which are used today in compliance to the UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs.  The CSA increased the search and seizure powers of law enforcement and established a major federal scientific inquiry called the National Commission on Marihuana and Drug Abuse (aka the Shafer Commission).  Marijuana was placed in Schedule 1 of the new law which is the most restrictive.  Crack cocaine and crystal meth are listed under Schedule 2 .  The criteria for a drug to be placed in Schedule 1 as defined by the law are,

  • The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.
  • The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
  • There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.

Marijuana’s inclusion in Shedule 1 was to be temporary pending the results of the Shafer commission.  When the commission released its findings to President Nixon in 1972 he was not pleased.  The Shafer report found, “Neither the marijuana user nor the drug itself can be said to constitute a danger to public safety.”  The report also found that marijuana use caused “no significant physical, biochemical, or mental abnormalities,” and that “most users, young and old, demonstrate an average or above-average degree of social functioning, academic achievement, and job performance.”  The Shafer commission also recomended that marijuana be decriminalized and at least be removed from its Scedule 1 status.  Nixon refused to even read the report and stated in a press conference,

“I am against legalizing marijuana. Even if the Commission does recommend that it be legalized, I will not follow that recommendation.”

In March 1973 Nixon created the Drug Enforcement Agency.  Until that time federal drug enforcement was handled by several different groups.  The new “super agency” was consolidated from the Federal Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD), Customs, the CIA and the Office of Drug Abuse Law Enforcement (ODALE).  The DEA is the worst agency ever created.  They have abolutely failed in ever part of their job.  Demand for illegal drugs has climbed uninterrupted since 1973, prices have not gone up and criminal gangs reap higher profits than ever.  Since its creation the DEA has succeeded in one thing, wasting vast sums of money.  The DEA budget has increased anually from $75 million in 1973 to $2.5 billion in 2009 (from the DEA website)

Richard Nixon used extensivce propaganda to literally brainwash the US to hate marijuana.  He was the first US President to formally seek media support in spreading drug war propaganda. In 1970, Nixon held a special White House meeting with senior executives and producers from the major TV networks and ad agencies, who were collectively responsible for over 90% of prime-time television. Nixon showed them “shocking” films about narcotics addiction, and then asked them to help America survive the scourge of drugs. Popular shows like Hawaii Five-O, The Mod Squad andMarcus Welby, MD soon began featuring anti-drug storylines.  Nixon then met with senior radio executives, with similar results. Within a year Nixon’s drug war had received an unprecedented $37 million in free advertising, a figure which has grown steadily every year since. Government officials now claim the average American child sees over 140 anti-drug ads each year, and the anti-drug theme is incorporated ever more deeply into mainstream entertainment, including movies, music and TV.

The Nixon regime squached the marijuana decriminalization movement.  When Nixon came into office 11 states had decriminalized marijuana and many more were considering relaxation of marijuana laws.  The General Social Survey showed close to 30 percent support for outright legalization of marijuana.  The science was in, reports like the Shafer and Le Dain commissions showed that marijuana was not dangerous, addictive or anything else the government said it was.  Just like today legalization seemed imminent.  Nixon’s methods of propaganda and continued enthusaism for the war on drugs delivered a heavy blow to the anti-prohibition movement. Just before Nixon’s second term the Watergate scandal erupted.  He was busted in a conspiracy that involved spying on the Democrats in order to keep him in office.  Read the whole story here.  As a result of the investigation Richard Nixon was the first American president in history to resign.  Nixon was a crook and a liar.  Although he was forced out of office his legacy continues to this day.  The drug war is still tearing society apart and marijuana is still listed in Schedule 1 despite overwhelming scientific evidence that shows it does not fit the criteria.  The DEA continues to grow and people still hate marijuana. From the late Hunter S Thompson,

Richard Nixon has never been one of my favorite people anyway. For years I’ve regarded his existence as a monument to all the rancid genes and broken chromosones that corrupt the possibilities of the American Dream; he was a foul caricature of himself, a man with no soul, no inner convictions, with the integrity of a hyena and the style of a poison toad.

Myth: Permanent brain damage is one of the inevitable results of the use of marijuana.

The Truth: While other drugs like  methamphetamine do kill brain cells marijuana has no such effect. Actually it has been recently proven to cause regeneration of brain cells which in it self was previously though impossible. (link1, link2)

tThis myth had some support 30 years ago from some “scientific” studies.  These famous examples of junk science forced monkeys to smoke excessive amounts of pot through a gas mask.  The researchers actually adminstered 63 joints worth of marijuana in five minutes with no air in between.  The monkeys began to atrophy and die after 90 days.  It is not really big news that asphyxiation kills brain cells.  Jack Herer discusses these studies in his famous book The Emporer Wears No Clothes.  According to Herer, and I agree, studies of this kind are part of a government conspiracy against marijuana.  It’s not just the US government either, look at the gutter science coming out of the UK recently, Schitzophrenia “study”.

While marijuana use does not kill normal brain cells there is another kind of brain cell it does kill.  There is a growing body of evidence that marijuana has the ability to kill brain cancer cells, while it does not affect normal cells (link1, link2).  Cannabis could acutally be the cure for cancer (study, Rick Simpson story).  Rick Simpson has been producing “hemp oil” for years at his home in Nova Scotia, Canada.  He has cured cancer in himself and many others.  Marijuana has successfully been used to cure many different kinds of cancer.  Unfortunately the medical establishment has ignored these incredible results.

Despite the fact that no real scientific study has shown any permenant brain damage supporters of prohibition still argue that marijuana kills brain cells.  The findings from the monkey studies in the 70s have not been duplicated and have been disproved by more recent studies.

Like the members of LEAP Barry Cooper is an ex-cop who became a marijuana activist.  He was one of the top narcotics officers in the US prior to his awakening.  Barry has first hand experience with the corruption of the war on drugs.  The Never Get Busted Again videos are essential to any smart stoner’s education.  In his DVDs Barry explains in detail the methods used by police to search your property and put you in jail.  In the DVDs Barry speaks passionately on the injustice handed out by law enforcement and provides entertaining and accurate information on how to never get busted again.

Barry spent eight years as a narcotics officer in Texas.  He received extensive training and worked joint operations with the ATF, DEA, FBI, U.S. Military and Border Patrol. Barry is well trained in all interdiction methods including undercover operations, reversal operations, search warrants, K-9’s, traffic stops and public transportation narcotics interdiction (buses and airplanes.)  During his career, Barry had accumulated an impressive record of over 300 felony narcotics arrests, 500 misdemeanor narcotics arrests, the seizure of over fifty vehicles and millions in cash and assets.

Barry Cooper is no longer a police officer because he realized the war on drugs is a war on the people.  After conducting numerous raids and seizures it became clear that drug enforcement causes more harm on the people and their families than use of drugs. While on the force he saw other officers lie under oath, use illegal warrants, and plant drugs on people in order to get a conviction.

In his own words,

I knew what I was doing was wrong but my need for fame, adrenaline and peer acceptance overrode my good conscience.

Barry Cooper’s newest project is called Kopbusters. It is a TV show where Barry and his team bust corrupt cops. They use DEA style reverse stings and other tactics to catch corrupt police in the act. In the pilot episode the Kopbusters team set up a fake marijuana grow-op using a big HPS light, ventilation and some christmas trees. If the police conducted a proper investigation they would have never raided the “grow house”. Barry’s team caught police on camera raiding the house on an illegal warrant. Check out the trailer below,

Barry Cooper is a powerful addition to the anti-prohibition movement. His experience and passion are unmatched. It takes a lot of courage to do what he does. He is running for Texas Attorney General check out his website.
